Foster carers are child care experts working with a team of other professionals providing children with the highest standard of care. Alongside this professionalism, they offer these children love, warmth and a positive experience of family life.
There is nothing quite like fostering if you want to work with children. Working from home, it’s possible to combine fostering with caring for your own children, or to combine fostering and other work, depending on the age and needs of the children in your care. There are many different types of fostering and each foster carer chooses what is right for them and their family.
What you can expect as an Ikon foster carer
We are told regularly from our carers that our support and training is one of the things that sets us apart. Our foster carers follow an annual training calendar. Sessions cover the essentials, like safeguarding, child development, attachment and peadiatric first aid as well as Safer care and Medicines administration. We also run specialist training – to help explain some of the issues young people deal with; like bullying on social media and gang culture. You’ll get ideas, resources and tools to help you.
Regular support groups
Giving you the chance to get together and meet people doing the same amazing job. We have a “buddy system” where new foster carers get paired up with more experienced ones. Our fostering team will also make sure your opinions are listened to.
